The Yorkshire Vet star Martin Paterson was faced with what he described as his 'most challenging surgery ever' as he performed an emergency operation in a bid to save a puppy's life.
The popular Channel 5 show made a return to our telly screens on Tuesday night, where senior surgeon Martin found himself preparing for one of his most significant operations yet on a seriously ill three-month-old pup.
Martin knew it wasn't going to be a walk in the park as he confessed: "Today we've got a really challenging case. We've got a little dog Luna, who is a tiny little three month old chihuahua and she has been having some issues with her breathing."
Little Luna was suffering from fluid leakage into her chest, compressing her lungs and making it difficult for her heart to expand properly. Martin elaborated: "This is not the type of surgery we do everyday and it's an unusual condition and she's an unusual dog to have it in, so we are a bit apprehensive about how things are going to go today."

"She is only three months old and weighs just 1.8 kilos, which is the same weight of a bag of sugar so it really is micro surgery. This is not a surgery I have ever done before."
Martin and his team gave their all to save the tiny pup and initially, everything seemed to be going according to plan as Luna woke up from the operation and appeared to be recovering well, reports .
However, there was a significant setback when Martin revealed that Luna needed another surgery after a review, and there was a high risk she might not survive.
Following a gruelling operation, Martin was relieved to announce that Luna had pulled through. He said: "Luna is back in the intensive care unit and she is a tough little cookie so we just have to keep a close watch on her for the next few hours."
After a week apart from their beloved pet, emotions ran high as young Libby and her mum Claire were finally reunited with Luna.
Claire struggled to hold back tears as she said: "It has been an absolute rollercoaster and I can't even put into words what this week has been like."
Turning to her daughter, she continued: "You've been telling me to stop crying haven't you but I'm not going to cry this time. Libby jumped in and said: "You need to stay positive. "".
Watching the emotional reunion, Martin added: "It makes it all worthwhile. She is such a happy little soul."
