Google is now making its AI tool Gemini smarter. The company recently announced that the Gmail app will now automatically show the summary of emails, especially those emails that are long threads or contain multiple replies. Last year, Google added Gemini to Gmail and provided a feature in which users could open an email or thread and tap on the “Summarize this email” button to get a summary of that email. This was especially helpful in understanding long conversations on mobile screens.
What has changed now?
Now, as per the announcement of May 29, Gemini will decide on its own when it would be useful to show the summary. If an email thread is long or has multiple replies, Gmail will automatically show the summary above the email content. If no summary is automatically shown, users can still use the “Summarize this email” button or the Gemini sidebar.
Which users will get this feature right now?
This feature is currently available only in the Gmail apps of Android and iOS. It works only in the English language. This feature will be available to Google Workspace users, Google One AI Premium subscribers, Gemini Education, and Gemini Education Premium customers only. It is being rolled out gradually, so not all users will see this feature immediately.
