OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced Thursday that ChatGPT's memory feature has improved greatly. Now it can remember all the past conversations with you. Through this feature, ChatGPT will now be able to give more personalized answers keeping in mind your interests and preferences. This will make it more useful than ever to help in writing, seeking advice, learning, and many other things.
Sam Altman said, "This feature is amazingly great and is a step in the direction where the AI system will know you well over time and become extremely useful." This feature has started rolling out for ChatGPT Pro users and will soon be available for ChatGPT Plus users as well. After this, in a few weeks, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users will also start getting this feature.
However, at this time no information has been given on when this feature will be made available for free users. Altman also clarified that this feature will not be rolled out in EEA, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
ChatGPT's memory feature existed earlier as well. It was launched in September 2024 for Free, Plus, Team, and Enterprise users. But then it had limitations like it could remember only limited information. Now after the new update, it can remember all your old conversations and the new conversation will be based on that, which will make the conversation experience even more seamless and useful.
OpenAI wrote in a post, "In addition to the already saved memory, it can now also refer to your old chats so that your answers can be more relevant and useful."
You can control memory.
If you don't want ChatGPT to remember your conversation, you can turn it off by going to Settings > Personalization > Memory.
You can also see what ChatGPT has remembered about you via the "Manage Memory" option and delete it completely if you want.
You can also use Temporary Chat, where ChatGPT will not remember anything or affect your memory.
