Millions of farmers across India are eagerly awaiting the 20th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, but the delay has raised questions, speculation—and growing concern. With no official announcement yet, despite expectations peaking on July 18, farmers are now wondering: will this be the first time the installment record is broken?
The last (19th) installment of ₹2,000 under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme was transferred ahead of schedule on February 24, 2025. That move raised hopes that the government might maintain the momentum with the 20th installment due between May and July. But with more than half of July already gone, there’s still no official word from the Centre.
No Announcement from PM Modi on July 18Many farmers were hopeful that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Motihari, Bihar, on July 18, would announce the next installment during his public address. While he did acknowledge the importance of the PM-KISAN scheme and mentioned that ₹1,500 crore was disbursed to over 5 lakh farmers in Bihar, he made no mention of the 20th installment's release date.
Since June, anticipation has been mounting as farmers expected the usual ₹2,000 support to be credited into their accounts by mid-July. However, the continued silence has sparked anxiety and rumors about possible delays in the payment cycle.
Has This Happened Before? Rarely.Over the past six years, the PM-KISAN scheme has maintained a commendable track record of on-time payments. Only once, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, was there a delay—when the December-March installment was credited on April 4, instead of the scheduled March date.
That single exception aside, the scheme has consistently delivered financial aid on time to its over 11 crore beneficiaries. This track record is one reason why the current delay has caused a stir—especially given that no public clarification has been issued by the government so far.
July Installments Are Usually EarlyHistorically, the installment due between May and July is usually credited by early July, sometimes even in late June. For instance, in 2023, there was a slight delay, and the money was finally transferred by July 27. That was the only time when this specific installment stretched so far into the month.
This year, if the ₹2,000 payment doesn’t arrive by July 27, it would be the first time the May-July installment would go beyond its typical window, possibly entering August.
Will the Scheme's Record Be Broken? That’s the big question worrying farmers. With the PM-KISAN scheme hailed as a flagship rural support initiative, the timely disbursement of funds is crucial—not only for the credibility of the scheme but also for the day-to-day livelihoods of its beneficiaries.
So far, the delay hasn’t been officially labeled as one. But if the 20th installment isn’t released by the last week of July, this will mark the second time ever that the scheme has missed its payout schedule—and the first time in its history for the May-July cycle.
What Could Be Causing the Delay? While there is no official statement on the reason behind the delay, some experts speculate that administrative processes like e-KYC validation, beneficiary list updates, or fund transfer logistics might be slowing things down.
Others believe that with political and budgetary planning in full swing ahead of upcoming elections, some procedural decisions may be under review. Whatever the case, transparency is now needed to ease the concerns of millions of small and marginal farmers.
Final Word: Watch This SpaceFor now, farmers are advised to stay updated via the official PM-KISAN portal and refrain from relying on rumors or fake messages. Given the government’s strong track record, many are still hopeful that the installment will arrive before July ends.
Until then, the wait continues—and so does the question: Will the 20th installment break the PM-KISAN punctuality record? Or will it arrive just in time to maintain the trust of India’s farmers?
