Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Nupur Borah, an Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer had transferred land belonging to Hindus to suspicious individuals in exchange for money when she was posted in the Barpeta revenue circle.
The Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell has raided the houses of a Circle officer in Guwahati and Barpeta, recovering a huge sum of cash and diamond jewellery worth over Rs. 1 crore.
CM Vigilance Officials said that cash and jewellery worth over Rs. 1 crore have been seized during a raid from the house of Nupur Borah, an Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer of 2019 batch. The seized amount and jewellery were found to be disproportionate as compared to the legal income of the 2019 batch Assam Civil Service (ACS) Officer, they said.
Sarma while talking to media said that the CM Vigilance Cell has put her under surveillance for the last six months after receiving complaints regarding her.
"She has worked in Barpeta and some other districts as a Circle Officer in the past. She has been involved in illegally transferring lands belonging to Hindus to suspected illegal inhabitants by taking bribes," said the Chief Minister.
Sarma said that there is huge corruption going on in the circle offices particularly in the religious minority dominated areas.
Borah is a resident of Golaghat.
