The Election Commission of India (EC) Secretariat has formally invited Congress MP Jairam Ramesh for a meeting scheduled at 12pm on Monday to discuss allegations of electoral fraud raised by the party.
“EC has granted an appointment for an interaction at 12:00 PM today. It is requested that, due to the limitation of space, names of up to 30 persons may kindly be intimated," the EC Secretariat stated in a letter addressed to the MP.
As of now, there has been no official response or confirmation from Jairam Ramesh regarding his attendance or the list of accompanying individuals.
Meanwhile, tensions over alleged electoral irregularities continue to rise.
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh announced that MPs from the INDIA alliance will march from Parliament to the Election Commission’s office on Monday in protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and accusations of “voter fraud” during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Further intensifying the issue, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal on Sunday declared that the grand old party plans to launch a comprehensive audit to uncover alleged irregularities in the voter lists from the last Lok Sabha elections. He noted that in 48 constituencies where INDIA bloc candidates lost by fewer than 50,000 votes, the party will conduct thorough investigations.
The Congress leader also pointed to the inclusion of fake voters in Kerala constituencies such as Thrissur and Alappuzha. He announced that party MPs will lead a protest march to the Election Commission’s office in New Delhi on August 11 to press for action.
This follows a notice from Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer to Rahul Gandhi, who had accused the Election Commission of collusion with the BJP in electoral fraud. The CEO requested Gandhi to provide supporting documents and a signed declaration so that a detailed investigation can be conducted.
