Samsung is all set to host its Galaxy Unpacked event in New York tomorrow, with the livestream going live on YouTube at 7:30PM IST. This edition of Unpacked is expected to focus heavily on foldables. If the leaks are anything to go by, we might see a slimmer Galaxy Z Fold, a new Fan Edition (FE) Flip device, and possibly even a triple-fold smartphone a first for Samsung. With just hours to go before the big reveal, here’s a quick look at what to expect.
Among the updates to Samsung’s upcoming lineup, the most significant changes are expected with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or what could possibly launch as the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra. According to leaked marketing material shared by well-known tipster Roland Quandt, the device will feature a 6.5-inch outer display and an 8-inch main foldable screen. The big shift, however, is in the design — this is expected to be Samsung’s thinnest Fold yet, measuring just 4.2mm when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded, compared to the Z Fold 6’s 5.6mm and 12.1mm profile.
The Z Flip 7 is also set for a notable upgrade. Leaked hands-on images posted by Sammobile suggest a redesigned 4-inch outer display that stretches across the entire top half of the phone, with only the camera and flash areas cutting through. On the inside, the display size is expected to increase slightly to 6.9 inches from last year’s 6.7 inches. While there have been whispers of a slimmer profile here too, it’s unclear from the leaks whether the thickness has actually been reduced.
For the first time, Samsung is expected to bring its foldable form factor to the more affordable FE lineup with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. As per leaked marketing material shared by Roland Quandt, the device will be available in black and white and will carry the same core design and specifications as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a device that has already received positive feedback.
Meanwhile, a more experimental foldable may also be in the works. Android Authority recently uncovered animation files within Samsung’s One UI 8 software that suggest a new device featuring dual, inward-folding hinges. Internally referred to as “Multifold7,” the phone may eventually launch as the Galaxy G Fold. However, don’t expect a full reveal just yet. Much like what Samsung did with the Galaxy Ring or the Galaxy Edge, the device may be shown as a concept more of a teaser than a product launch.
We can also expect a new and updated line-up of Galaxy watches.
