Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asserted that caste enumeration is an exercise to bring the marginalised sections, which are in the periphery, into mainstream and made them the priority of development, sources said.
Chairing the conclave of the first meeting of the NDA chief ministers and deputy CMs after Operation Sindoor, Modi suggested that the military aspects of the operation have been highlighted but there are social aspects which people need to be made aware about, sources said.
Describing the Operation Sindoor as a prime example of self-reliant India, Modi suggested chief ministers to make people sensitise that they can also contribute like armed forces for the nation by becoming more 'Vocal for Local', they said.
He suggested that rather than holding destination weddings and travelling abroad, there are so many places to explore and visit in India.
His remarks assume significance as there have been demands in certain quarters that Indian tourists boycotting such nations (Turkey) which provided arms and strategic support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
Modi also suggested that there is a tendency among certain leaders to speak on everything whenever the media puts a mike in front of them.
It should be avoided and there are people who have been designated to speak, they will put forth the official stand and position of the government, Modi told NDA CMs, sources said.
Briefing reporters, BJP president J P Nadda said two resolutions were passed one on Operation Sindoor and another one on the caste census in the National Democratic Alliance chief ministers meeting.
"In the resolution, we have made it clear that we do not do caste politics, but want to bring the deprived, oppressed and exploited, who have been left out, into the mainstream. This is the need of the society," Nadda said.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini proposed the resolution on the caste enumeration.
A resolution praising the valour of the armed forces and the brave leadership of Modi was also passed at a meeting.
The resolution was proposed by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and seconded by Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.
