It was an incredibly difficult week for 17-year-old Subhangi Guha, who lost her father, Samir Guha, to terrorists' bullet during the attack in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, Kashmir. Witnessing her father being shot right before her eyes left her in a state of shock. However, on April 30 morning, she rediscovered a sense of purpose having scored 87% at the ISC board exams, The Times of India reported.

Subhangi had high hopes for achieving a score over 90%. Ultimately, her performance in Psychology and Political Science slightly affected her overall percentage. She pursued her studies in the Arts stream. Her mother, Sabari Guha, told ToI's Dwaipayan Ghosh that Subhangi has resolved not to allow her exam results to hinder her ambitions; she aims to pursue an honors degree in psychology at Loreto College.

"Right now, her focus is on her studies. She believes that concentrating on her higher education will help her realise her dreams. For the time being, she intends to dedicate all her efforts to this goal. We hope the administration will assist her in achieving her aspirations," Sabari said.

"The results were somewhat disappointing for her as she had set higher expectations. Nonetheless, what matters now is looking forward, and she has already initiated that journey," said a relative.

As was the case a week ago, relatives and neighbours gathered at the Guhas' residence in Sakherbazar, showing their support for the family on this significant day.

"Subhangi has always excelled academically. We have decided to pool our local resources to ensure her dreams can be realized," said Shankar Roy, president of the local club, who visited the Guha family on Wednesday morning.

However, Sabari made a heartfelt plea to everyone to refrain from spreading misinformation about their family, which is currently coping with the pain of their loss. "Social media and some news outlets have falsely reported that we received a death claim settlement of Rs 1.7 crore. This is entirely untrue. An officer did come to our home, but he only took photos, that too without our permission. We have not received any cheque," Sabari told ToI.

Both Sabari and Subhangi had previously spoken to NIA investigators about the Pahalgam case, with Sabari recounting the harrowing moment when a group of armed individuals suddenly surrounded them. According to her account, the assailants commanded everyone to lie on the ground. Out of fear, they complied, and the attackers then selectively shot her husband along with a few others.

Sabari recalled hearing two gunshots, and at first, they were confused about what was transpiring, but it soon became clear that they were facing gunmen dressed in army uniforms.

While the psychological wounds are still raw, Subhangi says she has found a new purpose -- to fulfil the wishes of her father, who had steadfastly stood by her in many key moments in her life.
