According to legends, stories, and beliefs, Ram Navami is the day when Lord Ram was born in Ayodhya as the son of King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya. And according to scriptures, Lord Ram was just Lord Vishnu coming down to Earth during the Treta Yug to destroy evil forces, the biggest of them being Ravan, and also to restore Dharma in the Universe.
And his conduct was such that he was called Maryada Purushottam by all, which means the most honourable one.
And so for time immemorial, Ram Navami has been the celebration of Lord Ram’s birth, the victory of good over evil, truth over falsehood, and righteousness over injustice. And so Lord Ram’s life showed people how to walk on the path of devotion, loyalty, duty, and truth.
The Puja vidhi for Ram Navami
On Ram Navami simple puja is done across homes and families, and it starts early in the morning. And for people who keep Navratri fasts and break the fast on Navami, they also do Kanya pujan, inviting little Kanjaks to their home, feeding them with poori, halwa, and chhole, and also offering them gifts.
For the Ram Navami puja, people wake up early and take a bath before sunrise, and then clean their home temple where the picture of Lord Ram or Lord Vishnu is kept. The home temple is then decorated with flowers and colours, and sweets, fruits, and food is offered to Lord Ram and the other idols.
In communities and colonies, there is also a recital of Ramayan in these days, or the Ramcharitmanas, and one seat is kept empty for Lord Hanuman as it is believed that Lord Hanuman is present in every space where the name of Lord Ram is taken.
