Mumbai: The Deonar police have arrested a Dombivli resident, Anil Chavan,42, on charges of attempted murder. He is accused of trying to kill his tenant, Anwar Ali Syed, 37, by running him over with a vehicle following a dispute over a heavy deposit related to a rental agreement.
Dispute Over Heavy Deposit Turns Violent
According to the police, the incident occurred on July 21, within the jurisdiction of the Deonar Police Station. Chavan, who owns a house in Bainganwadi, Govandi, had rented it out to Syed for Rs 6 lakh under a heavy deposit arrangement.
After Syed vacated the property, Chavan returned Rs 4.5 lakh but allegedly refused to repay the remaining Rs 1.5 lakh, leading to a disagreement between the two.
While Chavan was visiting Deonar, Syed confronted him again to demand the balance amount. In a fit of rage, on July 21, Chavan allegedly rammed his vehicle into Syed, seriously injuring him.

Based on Syed's complaint, the police have registered a case of attempted murder and arrested Chavan. He has been remanded in custody till July 25 by the court.
