Mumbai: Over 1.3 crore vehicles have used the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as Atal Setu, since it opened to the public on January 13, 2024, with private cars accounting for the lion’s share of the traffic.

Data shared by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) shows that from January 13, 2024, to July 24, 2025, a total of 1,31,63,177 vehicles traversed the 22-km bridge. Of these, over 1.2 crore (1,20,86,076) were private cars, making up more than 91% of the total traffic.
The remaining traffic includes light commercial vehicles (LCV minibuses), buses and trucks, multi-axle vehicles, and a small number of oversized vehicles. While LCV minibuses recorded 1,71,711 count, 2-axle buses and trucks made 2,02,864 trips. Medium and heavy multi-axle vehicles together contributed to 7,00,989 crossings. Only 1,537 oversized vehicles have used the link so far.

Of the total 22 km length, 16.5 km runs over the sea and 5.5 km consists of viaducts on land.
The bridge, the country’s longest sea link, has significantly cut down the travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from nearly an hour to under 20 minutes. Apart from time savings, it has helped reduce fuel consumption and provided a smoother commuting experience.
On its first day of operation, January 13, as many as 28,176 vehicles used the bridge, generating Rs 54.77 lakh in toll revenue. The following day, vehicle count nearly doubled to 54,977, and toll earnings stood at Rs 1.06 crore.
The speed limit on the bridge is 100 kmph,with ramps restricted to 40 kmph. Mumbai Police oversee traffic on the first 10.4 km up to Sewri, while the Nhava Sheva police jurisdiction covers the rest of the link.
