Send Push

Mumbai: Badlapur residents, who have been struggling with severe power supply issues in recent months, may soon see relief as Tata Power Company plans to supply electricity to the city. A new substation will be constructed by Tata Power to deliver 180 MW of electricity, offering a much-needed alternative to the current unreliable power system.

To move forward with the project, Tata Power has submitted a formal land acquisition request to the Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Administration. The company has proposed to acquire the land under specific terms and conditions and has already initiated the process, as reported by Loksatta.

Badlapur’s population has grown significantly over the past few years, resulting in an overstressed power supply system. Inadequate infrastructure has led to frequent power outages, prolonged maintenance delays, and rising consumer dissatisfaction. These recurring issues have become more prominent recently, with increased public frustration.

To manage the growing demand during summer months, authorities often resort to cyclical power cuts. Recognising the urgent need for a more stable power supply, local MLA Kisan Kathore had earlier advocated for an alternative power source from Tata Power, according to a report. Following this, the company responded positively and began planning for the infrastructure.

Tata Power has identified the required land for the substation, 3.70 acres located on survey numbers 48 and 49, currently reserved for a sports complex (reservation number 18). The land falls under the jurisdiction of the Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipality. A proposal requesting a change of land use has been submitted to the Urban Development Department for approval. This move is expected to significantly enhance Badlapur’s power capacity shortly, as reported.
