An eleven-year-old boy died and two other children were injured after a school compound wall collapsed in Kalyan Taluka on Friday.
The incident occurred in the Balyani slum area, under the jurisdiction of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), on Friday evening. The three children, all residents of Krupa Chawl, were playing in the lane adjacent to the private school wall, which was reportedly in a dilapidated condition, when it collapsed, said officials from KDMC.
The deceased has been identified as Ansh Kumar Singh (11), while the injured children are Abhishek Sahani (10) and Soeb Shaikh (6), all from Krupa Chawl in Balyani, under the jurisdiction of the Kalyan Taluka Police Station.
Locals rushed to the spot after hearing the loud thud of the collapsing wall and rescued the children. They were initially taken to a private hospital on a two-wheeler, where doctors referred them to Rukmini Bai Hospital in Kalyan. One child died, while the other two were treated — one at Rukmini Bai Hospital and the other was shifted to a private facility. Vaheed Ali Hashami, a local resident, confirmed he and others helped transport the children.
Avdhut Tawade, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of KDMC, said, “The KBK International School's structure is unauthorized. We will take appropriate action against the school administration.”
Assistant Police Inspector Mudgan of Kalyan Taluka Police Station stated, “We are registering an FIR against the school administration. During the process, we learned that residents had frequently complained orally about the compound wall, but the school authorities did not act. A full investigation will follow once the FIR is registered.”
