Tucked away on the serene island of Divar, just a short ferry ride from Panjim, lies a timeless gem — Casa DeSa Monteiro — a 140-year-old colonial-era heritage home, beautifully restored into a warm and inviting homestay, here in Goa.
True to its name, Casa DeSa Monteiro is a reflection of both, history and the heart. The owner Agnes DeSa Monteiro tells Gomantak Times Digital, the name actually comes from two surnames — DeSa (the original owners who owned the home, and which also happens to be Agnes' maiden name), and Monteiro (the surname she acquired after marriage).
"It felt like destiny," she shares with a smile. “So, we decided to name our home Casa DeSa Monteiro.”
Walking into this heritage in Goa feels like taking a step back in time, without sacrificing modern comfort.
Plush amenities are tastefully woven into antique furniture-filled rooms, each telling its own story. From chandeliers sourced from around Goa to vintage furniture hand-picked from across the State after a lot of deliberation.
Each piece has been chosen with a lot of love. Agnes admits, “It was a tiring hunt, but worth it all.”

Casa DeSa Monteiro offers four uniquely themed suite rooms:
The Mango Suite: Overlooking a lush 100- year-old mango tree in the garden, this family-friendly suite includes an extra bed — perfect if you're travelling with kids.
The Susegad Suite: True to its name, this suite embodies a Goan chilled out style with its spacious layout, a large bathroom with a bathtub, and a private balcony that lets you soak up the tranquil vibe of Divar Island.
The Rock Suite: A true marvel featuring an exposed wall of rock — part of the island's original structure from which the house was carved.
The Divadi Suite: Compact yet cosy, this room offers a delightful view of the private pool, giving your stay the charm of a boutique resort.
There is no doubt that this Goan homestay — with its stunning pool — makes for a dream Goa getaway, whether you're after a weekend escape or a slow travel experience.
Food is another highlight. While the stay includes breakfast, the fully-equipped kitchen allows you to cook your own meals. Want to try local Goan flavours? Agnes and her family are more than happy to treat guests to hearty, home-cooked meals.

Before opening the doors of this homestay, Agnes was known for hosting authentic experiences — serving breakfast, lunch and high tea to travellers through a well-known local experiential group, called Make It Happen.
"That’s when I realised how much people loved coming back to the island," she says as she recalls her time at Make It Happen.
So, if you’re seeking an experience that’s both offbeat and homey, Casa DeSa Monteiro on Divar Island should be at the top of your list. With its stunning interiors and heartfelt hospitality, it’s more than just a stay — it’s a soulful journey into Goa’s heritage.
