Jammu and Kashmir's Speed Sensation Joins KKR: Umran Malik Returns, Speaks Out on Pahalgam Attack

Send Push

As the 2025 IPL season heads into its crucial second half, Kolkata Knight Riders have made a strategic move by bringing in Jammu and Kashmir’s fiery pacer, Umran Malik. Known for his thunderous pace—clocking up to 157 km/h—Umran could add serious firepower to KKR’s bowling attack. But his return to the field isn't the only reason he's making headlines. Umran has also made a heartfelt statement on the recent Pahalgam terror attack, voicing his grief and support for the victims.

Back in the Squad After Injury

Umran Malik, 25, originally missed the first leg of IPL 2025 due to injury. He was bought by KKR for ₹75 lakh during the mega auction, but his absence led to the temporary inclusion of spinner Chetan Sakariya. Now fully recovered, Umran has rejoined the squad, and all eyes are on how KKR will accommodate both pacers going forward.

The Fastest Indian Bowler Returns

Umran’s rise to fame began in IPL 2021 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he shocked the cricketing world by consistently breaching the 150 km/h mark. In IPL 2022, he bowled the fastest delivery by an Indian—157 km/h—placing him just behind legends Shaun Tait and Lockie Ferguson on the IPL’s all-time speed chart.

However, injuries have plagued his promising career. Since his debut, Umran has featured in only 26 IPL matches, with 2022 being his only full season. His last international appearance for India came in 2023.

A Voice Against Terrorism

Beyond cricket, Umran also addressed the emotional toll of the Pahalgam terror attack, a tragedy that shook the nation. Taking to social media, he said:

"Heartbreaking scenes were seen in Pahalgam. Innocent people lost their lives in a senseless terrorist incident. Such cruelty cannot be justified in words. Stand in solidarity with the victims and their families. Peace will always win over hatred."

This powerful message from a proud son of Jammu and Kashmir resonates strongly, especially at a time when voices of peace and unity are more important than ever.
