Erik ten Hag jokingly congratulated Jarell Quansah for beating Germany in the final of the Euros just minutes after his summer move was confirmed. The ex- Liverpool defender has put pen to paper on a £35m switch to Bayer Leverkusen over recent days.
Quansah has signed a five-year deal in Germany. And after his switch was confirmed, the Bundesliga side shared a host of behind-the-scenes content which included him meeting current boss Ten Hag for the first time.
And in that initial meeting, Ten Hag made sure to congratulate Quansah for his recent European championship success with the England under-21s. He said: “Congrats for winning! And for beating the Germans!” he said while chuckling. “Very good!”
Of course, Ten Hag currently calls Germany home having been appointed as Bayer Leverkusen boss this summer following Xabi Alonso's move to Real Madrid. The Dutchman had previously been in England for two-and-a-half seasons with Manchester United.
Quansah has followed in his footsteps having quit the Premier League for the Bundesliga and is determined to carry his winning habit on in Germany. Speaking to Leverkusen’s official website, he said: “It was an unbelievable feeling, winning with your country. It’s always probably the best thing you can do really.

“The partying has not really started yet, I would say. Obviously I was eager to come here and make sure everything was boxed off and over the line. I’m just grateful it is now.
“It’s a massive privilege to represent this club. It’s always good to be of interest to such a big club in Germany. Especially with the success over the recent years that they’ve been through. Seeing that, I’ve always been watching. I love the way they play.
"I was able to get a good impression of the team and the club when we met Leverkusen in the Champions League last season with LFC. A superb team – they played like hardly any other team at Anfield in the first 60 minutes.

"During the discussions, they explained to me exactly what ambitious goals they have here. It's a great job and challenge for me to become part of Leverkusen's current upswing."
Quansah’s switch to Leverkusen is just the latest bit of business that they have done with Liverpool this summer. The Reds have also moved for Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz - the latter moving to Anfield for a British record transfer fee.
