Lip-reader claims Donald Trump gave controlling 8-word order to Canadian PM Mark Carney

At their first official meet, reportedly issued an assertive command to Mark Carney, as unearthed by a lip reader.

Mr Carney made his way to Washington for talks with the US President following a surprising election comeback last month. Seizing power after Justin Trudeau stepped down, the Liberals turned the tables in the polls, securing a majority government, defying odds and expectations.

This political shake-up comes on the heels of Trump's hefty tariff swing, slapping a 25% general levy on goods from America's neighbour, alongside targeted duties on vehicles; though discussions have paused some of these impositions. Previously, Trump had criticised for failing to staunch the flow of fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, across the border.

Tuesday marked the inaugural bilateral meeting since Mr Carney clinched his electoral triumph. Facing voters who demanded resilience, Canada’s head honcho vowed to “stand up” to Trump's pressure, responding to suggestions that Canada might be annexed as the 51st state with a firm "not for sale" during their encounter this Tuesday, reports .

Lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling, the brains behind LipReader and representing Slingo, decoded the verbal power play between Trump and Mr Carney. Ms Hickling revealed that Trump initiated the conversation with, "Hi Mark. Congratulations. Some beautiful win." Canada's Premier replied: "It was a perfect one." To which Trump commented: "What a beautiful way to do it, perfect, perfect."

US President then directed the PM: "Just turn your face and wave over there." The PM obliged, and the President expressed his gratitude.

Mr Carney, 60, has a remarkable background, having been the first non-British Governor of the Bank of England in its 300-year history. Born in the remote Canadian town of Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, he went on to attend Harvard University on a scholarship and later earned his PhD in economics from Oxford University in 1995.

After working at Goldman Sachs for 13 years, Mr Carney took the helm at the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013, before becoming Governor of the Bank of England. He held that position until 2020, during which time he cautioned that could trigger a .

Upon his return to Canada, he succeeded Justin Trudeau as Liberal Party leader and subsequently won a narrow election in April.
