Discrimination in breast cancer treatment in the US, black women are not getting treatment: Study

A study recently published in the journal American Medical Association Network Open has revealed that black women aged 65 years and above in the US are facing discrimination in the treatment of breast cancer.

The study analyzed data from more than 258,000 older women, finding that black women wait longer for treatment than white women. 

Treatment is not available

According to the report, about 18 percent of black women did not receive treatment according to the required medical guidelines, while only 15 percent of white women received care according to the guidelines. This study has clearly shown that racial inequality is influenced by factors such as age, stage of cancer, insurance coverage and income level. 

Black women have a higher risk of dying from breast cancer

This inequality not only creates problems in the treatment process, but also increases the mortality rate of black women from breast cancer. The study's findings indicate that there is a need to improve the health system so that all women can get equal medical facilities.

No benefit from insurance coverage

Despite most patients having Medicare coverage, racial disparities are not disappearing. The study makes it clear that insurance coverage alone cannot eliminate inequities in health treatment.
