star Ben Thompson was left red-faced as he made an awkward blunder live on air. During Monday's episode of the hit morning show, Ben and co-host Sally Nugent were back on our TV screens as they presented the day's top stories.
Just minutes into one segment, Sally was forced to step in and correct her co-star after introducing the wrong guest onto the show.
The duo were expected to be joined by Paddy McGuinness, 51, who is gearing up for a gruelling 300-mile bike ride starting today as part of the BBC Children In Need cycling challenge.
Introducing the TV personality onto the show via video link, Ben started off by saying: "If you're heading out this morning and maybe you're going cycling to work or school this morning, it's pretty chilly out there."
He continued: "Your journey probably won't be as bad as the one Paddy McGuiness is about to undertake for Children In Need." Sally jumped in: "I hope not because the Radio Two presenter is riding nearly 300 miles from Wrexham to Glasgow on a customised rally chopper."
Turning to viewers, Ben said: "Breakfast Jayne McCubbin is with Paddy now." The show then cut to journalist Jayne, who was reporting live from Wrexham but Paddy.
The TV reporter was seen standing with Pudsey Bear instead, forcing Sally to correct her colleague as she said: "that's not Paddy." Ben chuckled as he addressed his blunder and confirmed: "That's not Paddy. You're going to chat to Paddy in a minute."
Jayne burst out laughing as she turned to Pudsey and added: "Yes, that's not Paddy." Minutes later, Paddy, known for his previous stints on shows like Top Gear and Take Me Out, made his appearance on the show and when quizzed about how he felt about his upcoming journey, he admitted that he is 'taking it a day at a time'.
Speaking to Jayne, he continued: "I'm not thinking too much about Friday, I'm just getting today done, injury free and then tomorrow is another day."
Discussing his training experience with Sir Chris, the six-time Olympic gold medallist who recently disclosed his terminal cancer diagnosis with an estimated two to four years to live, Paddy said: "Everything he has going on in his personal life but he still picks up the phone, gets me out on the bike and brutalises me."
He added: "The motivation he gives me and the little tips, he has been amazing. When I'm with him and we are on the bikes chatting, I just think 'that is sir Chris Hoy by the side of me' and he is just mucking in like everyone else."
