Cleaning fans are raving about the ultimate trick to maintain white bedsheets in spotless condition and prevent them from turning dingy grey. And impressively, it won't cost you a penny.
Splurging on crisp white bed linen can be quite the risk. With threats like makeup, fake tan, sweat and grime lurking around, those pristine sheets often end up ruined all too quickly. But mastering the trick to keeping your sheets immaculate could save you heaps of cash, sparing you the expense of frequent replacements.
Cleaning enthusiasts on social media believe they have discovered the most effective method for doing exactly that. What's more, this tip is absolutely free. This advice was shared over at the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips & Tricks Facebook page, one of the many pages inspired by 'cleanfluencer' Sophie Hinchcliffe.
In these groups, which attract thousands of members, cleaning fanatics exchange their household woes and solutions.
One member recently shared her query for keeping her new bed linens fresh and spotless. Her post read: "This probably seems like a trivial question. For once in my life I braved it and treated myself to some beautiful white bedding - what's the best way to keep it that way? I'm about to give it its first wash and I'm scared."
Washing new sheets for the first time can be tense, as there's a real fear of ruining them with a laundry mistake. But helpful tips were shared from the group members on a free and easy way to keep them perfect.
One member advised: "I wouldn't put anything in at your first wash. I only have white bedding and wash on its own."
Another added: "Mine have always stayed white, never mix with anything else!".
A third echoed: "No special products....just wash it all together only, 30 degree and your quick wash option. I only have white bedding and it's still pristine."
Another advocate for solo washing said: "Always wash whites separately and they will stay white. I have had white bedding for years always looks good."
However, for those wanting extra cleaning power, members suggest adding Napisan, soda crystals or white vinegar to the laundry routine for excellent results.
And if you want to take advantage of the good weather we're currently having, you should consider drying them outside after you've washed them. The sun acts as a natural way to bleach fabric and maintain that bright, white appearance, and it's also a much cheaper alternative compared to using the tumble dryer.
