Channel 4 Southport show sparks fury as outraged viewers brand it 'blatant propaganda'

Channel 4 has sparked fury from viewers after airing documentary on the Southport killer and the following riots.Axel Rudkubana was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 52 years for the murders of Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, 9, after targeting a Taylor Swift dance and yoga class in Southport, Merseyside. Channel 4 aired documentary One Day in Southport on Thursday July 24, which highlighted the aftermath of the brutal murders as anti-immigration riots spread around the country, starting in Southport.

The documentary heavily featured a family whose daughter survived the stabbing, who condemned the rioting, but the focus on the riots rather than the tragedy of the attacks has sparked backlash from viewers. Express.co.uk columnist Garry Bushell hit out at the documentary, saying: "Channel 4's awful One Day In Southport spent a little over seven minutes on Axel Rudakubana's horrific and barbarous murder of young girls and then concentrated on the subsequent riots.

"A lot of screen time was given to a counter demonstrator called Weyman Bennett, but C4 deliberately failed to disclose that Weyman is a central committee member of the Socialist Workers Party, a small but influential Trotskyist group whose agenda includes armed revolution and the replacement of Parliamentary democracy with a Bolshevik-run one-party state.

"There was no discussion of the multiple failures of Prevent, the Home Office, lax government approaches to immigration, or the possible link between savage unprovoked attacks on innocents and smoking skunk. Questions about the killer's religious faith remain unanswered. It wasn't a documentary, it was tunnel vision propaganda."

Other people have spoken out, with former BBC star Liz Kershaw writing on social media: "Please DO watch #onedayinsouthport. An absolutely excellent film brutally evoking the evil and horror of a tragedy and exploring what really led to such violent reaction on our streets?

"I was stunned to see this the jaw-dropping moment when everything changed as anger erupted among the small crowd of frightened broken grieving families, friends and neighbours of the victims when confronted by his evident contempt for the public. Starmer caused the riots. Don't take my word for it. See what you think."

Other viewers also took to social media to condemn the channel, as one penned: "20 minutes, that's all it took channel 4 to take the spotlight away from the true victims of Southport, the gaslighting, stonewalling and labelling from Starmer and the authorities and spin it on it's head. TWENTY MINUTES!!"

Another agreed: "Nothing about the scumbag or his background who committed this awful act. Channel 4 has turned into a propaganda machine for Keir Stamer and the Labour Party."
