One fan of has revealed one aspect of the series that they simply can't get behind. The programme has been on screen since 2011 and follows the lead detective as they attempt to solve crimes that occur on the island of Saint Marie. While crime is the main focal point of the drama, romance is also a running theme throughout all 14 seasons. Before Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet) made his way to Saint Marie, Neville Parker was the lead detective on the island.
During his four-year tenure, Neville (Ralf Little) embarked on an on-off romance with DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert), with the couple eventually leaving Saint Marie to start a new life together. But there were several relationships before that, including DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller) and DS Camille Bordey (Sara Martins) to Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton). While these romances have continued to be a running theme throughout the series, a few of them don't sit well with certain viewers.
Explaining the reason for this on Reddit, one fan wrote: "Controversially speaking I don't like the romances between the DIs and the DS's! The power imbalance makes me squicky, for example when Humphrey almost stopped Camille from leaving because he had the power to! Too realistic and too horrifying for my light-hearted murder show imo."
Another agreed: "YES YES YES YOU ARE SO RIGHT. Even without the power imbalance I think it would be way better if the DIs and the DSs stay friends, but this specific situation with Camille and Humphrey was really scary, I hated it."
A third echoed: "I really don't like it when the DI has any sort of relationship."
Another viewer also pointed out on the programme.
This particular fan, who hails from the Caribbean, admitted they often find this "distracting" and questioned why several characters sound Jamaican when Saint Marie has a French background.
They wrote: "Being from the Caribbean, the exaggerated accents can be distracting. Jamaicans have a distinct accent and other islands don't sound like that at all. So it's odd that Saint Marie having a French background has everyone sounding Jamaican. There was an episode where they claimed a guy was from Dominica yet he sounded Jamaican."
last month as DI Mervin Wilson solved his final crime. While the has not officially confirmed that a new season is in the works, Don, 58,confirmed that the cast and crew would be heading back to Guadeloupe to film season 15 at the end of April.
