Steak is generally considered as the top tier of all the meats and will often be the most expensive thing on the menu when dining out.
But enjoying doesn't have to be reserved for only, as it's possible to whip up a deliciously juicy and in your kitchen at home. The key to a well-cooked steak comes down to good preparation, searing and resting before serving, and according to , you don't have to spend a fortune to achieve a tasty meal.
The celebrity chef recommends opting for a feather steak (also known as flat iron steak) for a budget-friendly, yet flavoursome, steak and says there is one important ingredient that will make it incredibly juicy: .
Jamie says you should start by getting the steak out of the fridge and allowing it to come up to room temperature for around one hour before you start cooking.
If you start cooking the steak when it is still cold, this will stop the heat from the frying pan or grill from penetrating the middle as efficiently as from room temperature, so be sure not to skip this step.
Once your steak is ready to be cooked, you need to ensure your pan is very hot before adding your meat, as this helps it to caramelise and create a tasty crust.
Before the meat goes into the pan, Jamie says to smother the steak with olive oil as this will not only prevent it from sticking to the pan, but it also contributes to a more tender, juicy texture, as it stops the steak from drying out as it cooks.
Jamie explains: "Rub the steak all over with a good lug of olive oil and a good pinch of sea salt and black pepper. Add the steak to a hot pan, then cook for 6 minutes for medium-rare, or to your liking, turning every minute.
"Once cooked to your liking, rest the steak on a plate that can collect all the lovely juices for 2 minutes. Carve with a nice sharp carving knife, then serve with the resting juices drizzled on top."
He adds: "During cooking, aim to cook your steak medium-rare to medium - any more and you'll be left with a tough piece of meat. Turning it every minute or so will make sure you get a really even cook.
"After cooking, leave it to rest and rub with a little extra virgin olive oil or butter for an incredible, juicy steak."
