Jeremy Clarkson issues health update as he's 'banned' from task after heart surgery

has shared an update after he opened up about his life-changing heart surgery.

Over the weekend, the former host opened up about how doctors told him he was just days away from death after he was rushed to hospital.

The star was forced to undergo an emergency procedure to fit a stent. A stent is a small, wire mesh tube that is inserted into the body to keep it open, and are often used to treat narrowed blood vessels.

The 64-year-old broadcaster originally fell ill on holiday back in January, but when he returned home, he experienced a "sudden deterioration" in his health which led him to believe he was having a heart attack.

Now, he has reassured fans that he is okay following an outpour of concern over the news of his operation. He said: "I'm very grateful to everyone who sent supportive messages but I'm fine."

He told the outlet: "I just have to not do any manual labour or dishwasher emptying for the next four years. At least, I think that's what the doctor said."

The concerning health update comes just days after Clarkson shared a picture of what appeared to be a white surgical plaster on his wrist on .

The TV favourite wrote in his column in how he felt "mostly dead" after he returned to the beach following a short swim on his romantic getaway to a small island in the Indian Ocean.

He spent the rest of his break on a tropical island eating cheese and drinking wine. It wasn't until he returned to Britain and started working on the farm that he noticed pins and needles in his left arm.

Describing what he called the "wearisome effects of growing old", Clarkson said: "It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of the three was heading that way."

Discussing his life-saving surgery - which took around two hours to complete - Jeremy reassured fans: "It wasn't especially painful. Just odd."
