Leeds United target Premier League winner after £1.5m agreement reached

Leeds United are reportedly keen on securing the services of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The 32-year-old saw his contract terminated with Turkish outfit Besiktas in August. He was initially contracted to remain with the club until 2026, but the Turkish side paid him approximately £1.5m to conclude his deal prematurely.

As an unattached player, Oxlade-Chamberlain can be recruited outside the transfer window, which concluded earlier this week.

The Premier League champion with Liverpool is understood to be eager to return to English football, with Leeds amongst the clubs expressing interest, though the Whites face rivalry from Championship outfit Birmingham City.

"Oxlade-Chamberlain is available as well. A number of clubs have been having a look at him," transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke told Football Insider.

"He's got a great CV, played for Arsenal and Liverpool, he's a Champions League and Premier League winner from his time at Liverpool.

"Now that he's left Besiktas, clubs have been put on alert by his availability. There's interest from clubs in the Premier League, Championship and across Europe as well, with Leeds and Birmingham among them.

"So I'm sure he'd be ready to return to England after a couple of years away, and I expect there will be some movement on his future soon."

On the favourable side, Daniel Farke's squad would not be shouldering a transfer fee gamble, with the former Liverpool star available on a free transfer. The primary worry would be his salary.

It's reported that Oxlade-Chamberlain was pocketing £65,000 weekly in Turkey, nearly half of the £125,000 he was raking in at Anfield.
