The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced in January 2020 their intention to "step back" from their senior working roles to carve out a new path for themselves that would see them pursuing financial independence while still representing the Crown on royal visits and through patronages.
This solution was eventually deemed not possible following what became known as the "Sandringham Summit", which involved the late Queen, King Charles, Prince Harry, Prince William and senior royal aides - and the Sussexes stepped back from their royal working roles entirely.

Months after the pair relocated to California in the spring of 2020, Meghan and Harry started speaking about their difficulties within the royal household on high-profile interviews and other public platforms.
Following , as well as Meghan's new podcast , Vanessa .

Vanessa added her programme was "good-natured" and she was not trying to insult the Duchess of Sussex through it.
Speaking of her opinion of Meghan, she added it looked like "no one explained" to the duchess that in her position as wife to a British prince, she would be in one of the "most exalted positions on Earth".
Discussing Meghan's recent Netflix series, she added: "So you don't need to do a show in which you put pretzels in a bag and tie a bow on it. That's the sort of thing you do when you're not married to a prince of the realm."
