Kane Williamson has always been admired not just for his elegant batting but also for his calm leadership and integrity on and off the field. Over the years, he has earned respect worldwide by guiding teams with composure and performing consistently across all the formats. His ability to think clearly under pressure and connect with players makes him much more than just a run scorer. It is this blend of talent and temperament that continues to open new doors in his cricketing journey.
Carrying that legacy forward, Kane Williamson has now taken up a fresh role with Lucknow Super Giants. The former New Zealand captain, who still plays international cricket in all three formats, has joined the franchise as their new strategic advisor. Sanjiv Goenka, the team’s owner, announced the development on October 16 through a post on X. He expressed his delight in welcoming Kane Williamson back into the Super Giants family, praising his leadership, insight into the game and ability to inspire players.
Sanjiv Goenka tweeted, “Kane has been a part of the Super Giants family and it’s an absolute delight to welcome him in his new role as Strategic Advisor for @LucknowIPL. His leadership, strategic insight, deep understanding of the game, and ability to inspire players make him an invaluable addition to the team.”

Kane Williamson’s presence is expected to add immense value to the team’s think tank. Alongside this appointment, Lucknow has introduced other key changes to its support staff. Carl Crowe, who has previously worked with Kolkata Knight Riders, is set to take over as the new spin bowling coach. Earlier in July 2025, former India bowling coach Bharat Arun also joined the franchise. Arun, who spent four years with KKR as a bowling consultant, now works with Rishabh Pant-led side.
Kane Williamson’s experience in the IPL further strengthens his credentials. He has featured in 79 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, scoring 2128 runs. His time with Hyderabad was particularly impactful, with 2101 runs in 76 games from 2015 to 2022, making him their third highest run scorer. In 2018, he led SRH to the finals and won the Orange Cap after scoring 735 runs in 17 matches.
In international T20 cricket, Kane Williamson has represented New Zealand in 93 matches and scored 2575 runs. His most recent appearance in the format came during the 2024 T20 World Cup. With his new role at LSG, he steps into a phase where his cricketing mind may prove just as influential as his batting.
