PUNE: One of the pilots, who was injured in the Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar fighter jet crash in Gujarat's Jamnagar district on Wednesday night, is out of danger but still in the intensive care unit of the Military Hospital (MH), Kirkee in Pune, senior officials told TOI.
A senior officer from the Army Medical Corps (AMC) told TOI, "The IAF officer, Group Captain Manish Kumar Singh , 43, of 224 Squadron of the IAF in Jamnagar, was diagnosed with a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula in his right leg. He also received flame burn injuries in the incident. His condition is stable, and he is recuperating in the ICU of the hospital."
The officer was admitted to the hospital on Thursday. The officer said, "MH Kirkee is the premier orthopaedic institute of the Indian Armed Forces. In addition, it is the best orthopaedic setup. It also boasts a dedicated spinal cord injury centre , catering exclusively to spinal cord injured patients.
Since spinal cord injuries are relatively common in ejection injuries, patients are referred to MH Khadki for specialised care and treatment."
An IAF Jaguar two-seater aircraft airborne from Jamnagar Airfield crashed during a night mission on Wednesday, about 12 km away from Jamnagar town.
"The pilots faced a technical malfunction and initiated ejection, avoiding harm to the airfield and the local population. Unfortunately, one pilot succumbed to his injuries, while the other was receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Jamnagar. IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident," stated IAF on its official X handle.
