BJP submits police complaint against Ponmudy in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: BJP has submitted a complaint to the Coimbatore city police commissioner on Friday demanding action against forest minister K Ponmudy for his derogatory remarks against women and Hindu religious symbols in Chennai.

In the complaint, BJP state general secretary A P Muruganantham sought action against the organisers of the event too, where Ponmudy spoke on April 6.

"Ponmudy spoke in a disgusting, distasteful, scandalous and hateful manner about followers of Saivism and Vaishnavism with mala fide intention of denigrating the Hindu cultural system,'' the complaint said.

It further said Ponmudy's speech made with bad, immoral and abusive intention depicted women in ‘obscene, vulgar and poor light.'

The minister's remarks have caused grief and insult to people across India and world who follow Hindu culture.

"Since the minister has acted irresponsibly, appropriate action should be taken against him and the organisers of the event,'' said the complaint.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the complaint, Muruganantham alleged that DMK leaders have been consistently insulting Hindu religion.

"The anger among Hindus caused by actions and speeches of DMK leaders would explode soon," he said.

Muruganantham demanded that chief minister M K Stalin should offer a public apology for the actions of DMK leaders.

He said removing Ponmudy from party post was not adequate given the ‘grave mistake' he has committed by hurting the sentiments of Hindus. The BJP would ensure that legal action is initiated against Ponmudy, he said.
