Man gets 20 years RI for raping minor

Palanpur: A court in Idar town of Sabarkantha has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl in 2022.

The additional district and sessions court convicted Dashrat who had lure the girl with false promise of marriage and raped her at his uncle's house in Punsari village on April 22, 2022. He also forced her into sexual relations repeatedly later.

"Considering the statement of victims and witnesses, as well as the written and oral evidence submissions, the court of judge KS Hirpara handed the punishment to Dashrath on April 9 under sections of IPC and Pocso," said additional public prosecutor Pranay Soni.

The court ordered the convict to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation to the victim while the social welfare department was told to pay Rs 1.5 lakh.
