James Comey is a 64-year-old American lawyer who previously served as the seventh director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2013 to 2017, when he was terminated by Donald Trump. Born on December 14th, 1960, in New York, James Brien Comey Jr. grew up in a family that valued public service, with his father, J. Brien Comey, working as a real estate professional and his mother, Joan, working as a computer consultant.

He attended the Northern Highlands Regional High School for his higher studies and graduated from the College of William & Mary in 1982 with a major in chemistry and religion. He then moved on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School in 1985.

Comey's legal career began as a clerk for a federal judge, and then he joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. In 1987, he became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and in 2001, he became the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. It was in 2013 that Comey was appointed as the Director of the FBI by then President Barack Obama.
