Actor-turned-politician Kushboo Sundar has surprised everyone with her weight loss pics. The actor shared her pictures recently and the internet has not been able to keep calm. At the age of 54, Kushboo has shed 20 kilos, an unachievable feat for many, even those who are decades younger to her.
Soon after she shared her pictures on social media, she was trolled for trying weight loss medications which are immensely popular these days. "Magic of Mounjaro injection. Let your followers know that so they can get themselves injected too," wrote one user to which the BJP leader wrote, "What a pain people like you are. You guys never show your faces becoz you know you are ugly from within. I pity your parents."
Her weight loss journey goes back to 2020 during pandemic lockdown, when she weighed 93 kilos. She incorporated a disciplined routine comprising yoga, planks and diet control.
"You're a real-life hero"
Amidst all the trolling, film director Annand Kumar wrote a heartfelt post for her defining her journey to fitness. "This is an incredible transformation . Since the pandemic, I have seen you pushing yourself hard and working on yourself like never before. A consistent walk of 10,000 to 15,000 steps has become a part of your daily routine, and I notice how restless you get when traveling and unable to walk as much. You're a real-life hero, so continue on this journey and keep inspiring others!," he posted on social media platform X.
Losing weight at 54, how Kushboo Sundar broke several stubborn myths
There’s this big myth floating around that once women hit their 40s or 50s, weight loss is basically impossible. Like, somehow the body refuses to cooperate. But here’s the truth: while losing weight might be a bit more challenging due to hormonal changes and a slowing metabolism, it’s definitely not impossible. The real issue isn’t the age—it's often outdated beliefs and lifestyle habits that haven’t been adjusted to suit a new phase of life.
One of the biggest myths is that your metabolism completely crashes after menopause. Yes, metabolism slows down with age, but it doesn’t come to a screeching halt. What actually happens is that many women become less active, lose muscle mass, and continue eating the way they did in their 20s. That’s what causes weight gain—not age itself. In fact, strength training and eating more protein can help women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond keep their metabolism humming.

Another myth? That cardio is the only way to lose weight. Nope! While a good walk or jog can help, relying only on cardio and skipping weights is a big mistake, especially in the later years. Muscle is your best friend when it comes to burning calories. The more muscle you have, the more fat your body burns—even while resting. So lifting weights or doing bodyweight exercises isn’t just for the younger crowd—it’s essential for older women too.
Then there’s the “I have hormones working against me” excuse. Yes, hormones change, especially during menopause, and they can make weight loss trickier. But they aren’t unbeatable. Stress, poor sleep, and inconsistent eating patterns actually mess up hormones more than age does. Cortisol—the stress hormone—loves to hang out around your belly. Managing stress, getting good sleep, and eating whole foods can do wonders for balancing hormones and trimming that waistline.
A lot of women also think crash diets are the only way to see results fast, especially if they're starting late. But extreme diets usually backfire. At a later age, the body needs more nourishment, not less. Starving yourself just messes with energy, mood, and hormones. Sustainable, balanced eating with whole grains, lean proteins, healthy fats, and tons of veggies works much better in the long run. And yes, you can still enjoy your treats—just not all day, every day.
Lastly, the myth that it’s “too late” is honestly the most damaging one of all. Women like Khushbu Sundar, who dropped 20 kilos at 54, prove that mindset matters more than age. It's never too late to get stronger, feel better, and take control of your health.
