Atla Tadde 2024 : Atla Tadde is the most revered festival, which is mainly celebrated in Andhra Pradesh. This festival is similar to Karwa Chauth and women observe Nirjala fast for the well being and longevity of their husbands. During this fast, women offer prayers to the Goddess Gauri and seek blessings. Atla Tadde is going to be observed on Ashwayuja Thadiya Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik i.e., on October 20, 2024.

Atla Tadde 2024: Significance

Atla Tadde is one of the most revered festivals of Hindus. This day is mainly celebrated in Andhra Pradesh and the festival is similar to Karwa Chauth where women observe strict fast for the well being of their husbands and worship Maa Parvati with immense devotion and pure intentions.

According to the Hindu Scriptures, on this auspicious day, unmarried women also observe fast to get the desired husband or life partner. It is believed that this fast was suggested by Maa Gauri that each girl should observe this fast and they will get a suitable life partner and married women observe this fast for the marital bliss.

As per Hindu Scriptures, it is believed that this fast was suggested by Goddess Gauri to be followed by all unmarried girls who wished to get a suitable life partner whereas married women perform this fast for marital bliss and wellness of their husbands.

Women celebrate this day with immense joy and happiness and they adorn themselves on this day by wearing traditional dresses such as saree and wear gold jewellery.

According to the Scriptures, it is believed that once there was a young princess, who observed this fast but fainted in the middle of the fast due to hunger and was unable to complete her fast. Her brother decided to show her a mirror with the reflection of a fire so that she could break her fast. After she grew up, her brother started searching a groom for her but he was unable to find a perfect one.

At last he had no choice but to fix her marriage with an old man and the princess did not agree with this and ran away went to the forest. She was crying badly sitting under a banyan tree then Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati appeared and asked her to go back and complete the fast of Atla Tadde, which she could not complete earlier. She went back to the kingdom and observed the fast with all devotion and dedication and following all the rituals. After sometime, she got married to a handsome young man of her choice.

Atla Tadde 2024: Puja Rituals

1. Women apply henna on their hands and feet a day before the festival.
2. All women wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath.
3. Wear traditional clothes and adorn themselves with jewellery.
4. There is a ritual of eating Suddi before sunrise and Suddi includes rice, curd, dosa and a Gongura chutney.
5. This a Nirjala Vrat so women don't eat or drink anything entire day and they break their fast after offering prayers to the Moon.
6. They spend their day singing traditional songs, swinging and prepare traditional special food.
7. In the evening, they offer prayers to Maa Gauri and offer ten dosas with home made sweets and other delicacies.
8. These ten dosas and a 'thoram' are distributed among other women as well.
9. They prepare traditional dishes such as Paltalikelu, which is a sweet dish made up of rice flour, jaggery and milk. They make sambar including 11 vegetables and gonghura pachadi to offer Goddess Parvati.
