A Reddit user shared his experience of working as a Zomato partner which is getting attention online. The post, titled “I became a Zomato delivery person for a day and it was truly life changing,” describes how the user worked as a delivery worker for a weekend to gain a better understanding of daily struggles faced by many.

The user said he grew up in an upper-middle-class family and spent over a decade in the US before moving back to India to start his own company. However, after losing a major project that he had been working on for months, he went through a difficult time. During a conversation with his father, he was reminded that he had been shielded from financial problems for most of his life. His father suggested he try to look at life from a different point of view.

“A few weeks ago, I lost a big project I had been pitching for months. It hit me hard. I was depressed, questioning myself, and in a bit of a midlife crisis. My dad noticed and tried to comfort me. As we spoke, I ended up ranting about “bad luck” and how things were going wrong lately. He gently reminded me that I’ve been shielded from financial struggles most of my life — and maybe it was time to get a different perspective,” he wrote in the post.

Reddit user decides to work as a Zomato partner for a weekend

The user then decided “to do something random” and eventually “signed up to work as a delivery person for a weekend”. Working as a Zomato partner on a weekend, he made several observations that he also listed in the Reddit post.

Many people were rude or dismissive, especially during deliveries to homes.

Several buildings lacked elevators, and he had to climb multiple flights of stairs for deliveries.

Hotel staff often treated him with little respect.

Working in the summer heat was physically exhausting.

He struggled with riding an old scooter after not having driven one for 15 years.

His earnings from the day were very low — less than the cost of a dinner item — and would not have covered any unexpected expense.

The user ended his post on a positive note, stating “This weekend changed something in me. It humbled me, gave me perspective, and reminded me of how easy it is to forget the effort behind the services we take for granted. I honestly think more of us in comfortable positions should try something like this once. Not for show — but to understand, to reflect, and to grow.”
