NEW DELHI: Barely days old, the Patna Metro is already showing signs of wear, but not from normal use. The gleaming new station of Bihar ’s first metro project have been splattered with red gutka stains , turning the city’s pride into an unexpected mess.
The 3.6 km elevated stretch, inaugurated by chief minister Nitish Kumar on October 6 and opened to the public the next day, has quickly fallen victim to careless behaviour.
A viral Instagram video shows walls, stairs, railings, platforms, floors, and even tracks smeared with gutka.
In the clip, a frustrated man laments, “It’s not even been 2–3 days since the Patna Metro started and you can already see the ‘gutka gang’ has arrived who have turned the metro stations and platforms with red stains. Have some shame, people of Bihar. The government is doing such a good job by building this metro, and you’re making it dirty.”
The Instagram caption summed it up bluntly: “Patna Metro me aagye hai Gutka wale,” pointing to a short-lived glamour in the city and a glaring disregard for civic sense.
