The Kremlin said on Thursday that it was analyzing recent statements by US President Donald Trump regarding possible secondary tariffs against buyers of Russian exports. The remarks were made in response to questions about Trump’s threat to impose 100% tariffs unless a peace deal over Ukraine is reached within 50 days.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russian authorities were continuing to study Trump’s comments. He added that President Vladimir Putin would respond publicly if he considered it necessary.
The Kremlin has so far reacted coolly to Trump's warnings, saying that decisions taken by the US and Nato were seen by Moscow as signals encouraging Ukraine to prolong the conflict.
Earlier this week, Trump announced new weapons supplies for Ukraine and threatened "biting" secondary tariffs targeting countries that purchase Russian exports.
President Putin has not issued any personal response to the US president’s latest threats.
