New Feature Enhances Accessibility and Searchability Across Podcasts

Pocket Casts has introduced a major new feature, enabling automatic transcript generation for podcast episodes, available exclusively to Plus and Patron subscribers on Android and iOS. This update significantly improves accessibility and allows users to better engage with their favorite shows.

Previously, Pocket Casts only displayed transcripts manually provided by podcast creators. With the rollout of version 7.85, the app now automatically generates transcripts for new episodes from the platform’s most-followed podcasts.

How to Access the New Transcript Feature

Users can access transcripts by playing an episode, opening the overflow menu, and tapping the “Transcript” button. The button can also be moved into the main toolbar for easier access. Although the current system does not offer line-by-line highlighting or real-time follow-along features found in some other apps, users can select and copy any text from the transcript.

The fullscreen transcript view includes playback controls and a timeline scrubber at the bottom, while a search button in the top-right corner allows users to find and highlight specific terms quickly.

Subscription Requirements and Recent Updates

The new transcription feature is available for Pocket Casts Plus subscribers at $3.99 per month or $39.99 annually, and for Patron subscribers at $9.99 per month or $99.99 annually. This addition complements a series of recent updates to Pocket Casts, including:

  • A redesigned, blurred podcast header

  • Introduction of smart folders with automatic categorization (e.g., Comedy, TV & Film, Technology)

  • Modernization of the Classic widget using the Glance feature

Pocket Casts continues to evolve its user experience with enhancements that prioritize accessibility, organization, and modern design principles.
