Rising Heat Grips Rajasthan, Relief Expected from May 2

JAIPUR, April 29 — Rajasthan is bracing for a spell of storms and rain in the first week of May as a new western disturbance becomes active across the region. While the state continues to experience intense heat, with temperatures soaring past 45°C in several cities, the upcoming weather changes are expected to bring much-needed relief to the public.

On Tuesday, 23 cities in the state reported daytime temperatures exceeding 40°C. Jaisalmer recorded the highest temperature at 46.3°C, followed by Phalodi at 45.8°C and Barmer at 45.7°C. Phalodi also witnessed the warmest night, with temperatures remaining at 31.4°C.

New Western Disturbance to Trigger Thunderstorms and Strong Winds

According to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Center, Jaipur, a fresh western disturbance is expected to become active on May 1. This will likely result in thunderstorms, light rain, and gusty winds ranging from 40–50 km/h over parts of the Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, and Jaipur divisions during the afternoon.

Between May 2 and 3, scattered regions across Bikaner, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Kota, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions are forecasted to experience thunderstorms, heavy dust storms with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km/h, and rainfall. This stormy weather is anticipated to persist from May 4 to May 7 in several parts of the state.

The onset of storms and rain is likely to lower maximum temperatures by 3–4°C and provide respite from the ongoing heatwave conditions starting May 2.

Jaipur Sees Temporary Dip in Temperatures Amid Dry Weather

In Jaipur, moderate winds prevailed throughout Tuesday, leading to a 3°C drop in daytime temperatures. However, the night temperature slightly increased by 0.8°C. Weather experts predict fluctuating temperatures over the coming days, with stormy conditions expected to bring further cooling.
